One really cool thing I learned from the Russian lesson this past Saturday is that our kids are ready to get started on fractions!
Slava displayed geometric shapes that were divided into halves and quarters, for example, a circle was cut into two half circles, a rectangle into four rectangles, etc. The kids then counted the number of parts into which each shape was cut. They discovered that the parts are called halves if the shape is cut into two parts, or quarters – if the shape is cut into four parts.
Pretty amazing those three-year olds can get this! I made up my mind to try fractions with Sasha at home one of these days! We can cut out shapes from color paper and then divide those all sorts of ways – what fun, :-)!
